THE SCARLET LAMB

I have had a lifelong attraction to manipulating different objects, materials, and mediums but it wasn’t until a throw-away comment my mother made several years ago that I even considered wool as a medium. We were walking through an arts/crafts show where a felt artist was selling pictures made with wool.

“You should try that. You would be good at it.”

Another artisan was selling wool roving. I bought some and got hooked.

I learned by trial and error, watching YouTube videos, taking a few classes…and then selling a piece that I had posted to an online felting group.

As a friend said, before selling that first piece, I was art-ish, but having sold a piece to someone unknown to me previously gave me the right to call myself an artist—but one who is still seeking to learn and perfect her craft!

I love the tactile feel of working with wool and silk and other fibers to add to the beauty of our visual world. As an emerging artist, I am still learning a lot about the manipulation of wool but the possibilities are endless—what other medium allows for sculpting and painting at the same time!

Currently, I am creating landscapes rich in color, seascapes in action, and whimsical pieces with little creatures. I seek more to draw the viewer into the piece than to perfectly reproduce a photograph which means that sometimes I start with a specific idea but the wool itself mutates the picture in a totally different direction. Often my serendipitous pictures speak strongest.

Lastly, as part of my art, I seek to create a unique frame for many of my pieces, using reclaimed wood, driftwood, or other scavenged pieces even from my wood stove pile. The synergy created by combining unique wool art and unique wood frames enhances the artistry of both. Because the frame so often contributes significantly to my felt pieces, I consider them part of the art.

Gather Blessings from Tumultuous Seas

When the Winds in the Heavens are Blowing

When the Winds in the Heavens are Blowing

The solar winds, the northern lights, have captivated our imagination since time began. When the winds in the heavens are blowing, or even hinting, be still and know. I love to sit under a northern sky at midnight and contemplate the heavens--and the Mystery behind it all. Size: 6.5"x14" Needlefelt: 2.5"x6" Reclaimed barnwood frame $95 + sh

Storm and Wave

Storm and Wave

I almost threw this away. The felted portion fits in my palm, but I decided to see if perchance a frame could save it. Rummaging through my wood pile, I found this mangled piece of beach wood. I knew I couldn't throw it away. I routered & painted it, and found screws in my husband's pile of discarded airplane parts. A porthole, with a leak, developed. Sometimes I'm tempted to throw experiences away too until I frame it through the lens of His faithfulness. A porthole into Love. NFS

Storing Up Blessings

Do you have a barn full of blessings where you store all the gratitude your heart can hold? Do you ever wonder what is going in the mind of God's other creatures? Do they feel the call behind the moon, the call of the Maker of all things? Do you? SOLD

Harvest Moon Rising

Harvest Moon Rising

Most of us have sat and watched at least some sunsets during the course of our days and evenings. Moonrises catch us a bit more off-guard. All of a sudden, it's there, sneaking large from behind the trees. The moon calls me to reflect deeper about those things that I so often take for granted, like the blessings bestowed by the One Who loves us best. Size: 9.5"x15" Wetfelted: 7"x12" Reclaimed Barnwood Frame $185+sh

Do You Know Who Loves You Best

Do You Know Who Loves You Best

Sometimes it takes a small thing in nature to open our eyes to the reality that the Maker of all things loves us--best. This image was inspired by the first time I saw a small eastern screech owl perched perkily on a branch above my head! Size: 14"x15.5" Needlefelt: 6.25"x8.25" $165 + sh

Even When the Waters are Crashing

Even When the Waters are Crashing

Can I sing a song of gratitude and praise even when the waters are crashing around me? Am I ready to rise above the tumult, riding the air currents that are inevitable? I can use those currents to lift me to a higher perspective. Size: 7"x14.5" Needlefelt: 3.75"x3.75" Reclaimed barnwood frame $85 + sh

The Wind Blows Wheresoever It Will

The Wind Blows Wheresoever It Will

The Blessing Brought by the Moon

The Blessing Brought by the Moon

Sometimes an evening up north in Michigan in summer brings such wonderful skies. There is a lingering gloaming even as the moon is rising and the stars start their nightly twinkling. I am not sure this picture would actually be possible but somehow the Mackinac Bridge had to be part of it. Size: 9"x13.75" Wetfelted: 4.25"x10" $175 + sh

A Fiery Sunset Over the Dune

A Fiery Sunset Over the Dune

It has been a dark day, clouds scuttling low and angry. I go out to the lakeshore with the hope that the sun that will set will show at least a flash of its colors. I walk up and over the dune. A blessing on an otherwise tough day. UNAVAILABLE

CONNECTIONS

CONNECTIONS

Sometimes we sit on the wire to achieve connections. Sometimes we scroll on the phone seeking connections. But there is always one connection that is always live--if we will but turn to Him. Size: 4.5"x8.75" Needlefelt: 2.5"x4.5" Reclaimed barnwood frame $45 + sh

REACH FOR THE MOON

REACH FOR THE MOON

COLORS OF YOUR WORLD

COLORS OF YOUR WORLD

This piece was inspired by the war in Ukraine. There are so many areas of conflict in the world, from serious conflict in the home to nation against nation. A Bright Harvest

A Bright Harvest

I have to keep my eyes open to see that the harvest is sometimes brighter than the sunset. The smile on the face of stranger when they realize they matter to me. The enthusiasm of a student who understood a complex concept. The broken open to grace tears on the face of a young lady who finally realized that the Maker of all things loves her. Size: 6.75"X11.25" Needlefelt: 2.75"x6" $75 + sh
