Taking Hearts Deeper Into His
The Holy invades our lives during the routine and during our broken times. Our days are moments of ordinary strung together with pleasure and pain, our nights are often sleep punctured by suffering.
But always embedded is the promise,
“Lo, I am with you…always.”
(Matthew 28:20)

We need eyes to see and ears to hear that He is always with us…always. The Holy is always—through joy and through sorrow—inviting us to a closer relationship with Him Who loves us most.

Now is the time to take the ordinary and view them through the spiritual. Now is the time to look through the lens of the extraordinary mystery of divine grace and mercy and love. It is a call to dwell in the Holy in darker times and sunny days. Now is the time to be good “stewards of the mystery” (1 Corinthians 4:1).
So let’s engage in conversation with the triune God Who seeks us in the middle of the mundane and the monumental.

CURRENTLY
IN PROGRESS
My current book, The Haunting of the Holy: Reflections on The Spirit’s Unexpected Pursuit, uses vignettes and reflections to help us understand the blessing of brokenness.
You might be interesting in reading this short excerpt from the introduction:
“Some moments in our lives catch us unawares—by their beauty, by their brutality, by their lingering haunting in our hearts. Some days seem like a monotonous slog through wet cement. There are smiles that rip our hard hearts open to grace. Some months we feel like life has been stripped of everything we had painstakingly built. There are songs and snow crystals that send
our hearts yearning for more than this world can ever offer. There are years when all we have believed is called into question before the court of our hungry or angry hearts.
Do we catch a whiff of the Holy through these times, or do we curse? What do we do when all we have are empty hands, hearts, and pockets?...
The best promise embedded in poverty (Matthew 5:3) is the recognition that
God is wooing us to a closer relationship with Him through the unexpected moments, the small cracks and fissures in the daily grind, through the aching beauty the heart gasps over, and through the darkest hours of our being.”
